Hard (Wood Flooring) Lessons Learned (Part 1)
Hardwood Flooring – DIY Style During the three months we were waiting to close on the purchase of our home (you can catch-up on that story here), and we had far too much time to make decisions on the renovation projects, we came to the decision on what to do with the floors in our not-so-old Victorian home. And for the most part, it was a choice to put-down hardwood flooring throughout the house. Mind you this was only going to happen if we did the installation ourselves because, well, it was simply a cost factor! With all of the other projects we needed to complete, budget was always a…

We’ve Lost the “Care” in Healthcare Insurance
Care: the provision of what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance, and protection of someone or something Today’s topic: healthcare insurance and why we don’t have it anymore! Gone are the days when we worked for someone else and a healthcare deduction on a pay stub was right up there with payroll taxes and merely a dollar amount to be ignored. Oh those naive days when all that mattered was the deductible amount you’d pay at a doctor’s office, if there even was a deductible! After I resigned from my corporate job several years ago, we were introduced to the big, bad, ugly world of the self-employed health insurance…

More Paint; The Real Transformation Begins
Welcome Back! Hey there and sorry, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything to the Young Victorian project but we’ve been a bit busy! Just in the last month, we decided to close our rentals business which you can read about here. And that prompted the creation of a new website to house our renovation story and you can read about the creation of FaithSpun here. I wanted to take a few posts to really introduce FaithSpun before jumping back into the renovation project. It is important to note that this post brings us up to where we were around late February 2016. That was during a time when Warren and…

Money Matters; The “T” Word!
Just a little over a year ago, Warren and I signed up to attend a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University (FPU) course offered through our church. It was life-changing and I’m not even exaggerating. I’m the designated bill payer in our family and managing our finances was always, let’s just say an “issue” for me. We are small business owners and our income has always been incredibly irregular. There’s no Medication for This Type of Irregularity Needless to say, Warren and I have had many a conversation about this irregularity. I was constantly asking how much we still had outstanding in accounts receivable so I could then guess how much…

Stuff to Love | Noonday Collection
Jewelry But So Much More! So this is the second post in the Stuff to Love category. It’s something to love. It may be a good book, a great product, an experience you may be able to go out and experience too, who knows. But any time we stumble over something good, we”ll share it! Today I’m sharing Noonday Collection So how many ladies reading this attended an IF: Gathering last month? How many of you stopped at the Noonday Collection jewelry tables during a break over the two days of the conference? And please feel free to leave your answers in the comments below; I really would love to know! If you’re…

Why FaithSpun
So why FaithSpun; why did I begin this new blog? Because from every ending comes a new beginning! In my last post, I shared with you that we had decided to close our rentals business. Along with the rentals, we had plans of someday expanding the Yours brand to a retail space. I envisioned a space that included room for both retail and warehouse space for the rentals. Under the “Yours…” heading we could run the rentals business and sell local artisan products for the home and personal care, hence the “for your day, home, life” reference. We had created the Yours For Your website to house all blog posts…

Yours No More
I’m supposed to be sad. I’m supposed to be embarrassed. I’m supposed to be disappointed. But what I am is nothing short of relieved! We recently made the decision to close our Yours For Your Day rentals business. We started the business back in 2014 and had big plans to grow it to a very large business that we could someday sell to help fund our retirement plans. We dreamed about having the day-to-day operations run by capable hired hands so that we could just focus on the big picture and I could jump in and act as buyer when there was a need for new inventory (because hey, that…

Nothing to Prove: You’re Not Enough – But Jesus Is!
Nothing to Prove Jennie Allen, the author of Nothing to Prove, is described as a recovering achiever and man that’s what I want to be too! Can you imagine being okay with not being enough. To realize that God is everything and that you alone will always fall short, and that’s okay? To stop the never-ending cycle of feeling like you have to prove yourself to everyone? To let go of everything you drag around with you day-to-day in an effort to please others? to please God? It’s about the journey with God and how we all need to stop trying so hard on our own to please God and…

Pick a Paint, Any Paint
It’s Only Paint! Yes! It’s paint-pickin’ time at Annabelle’s Place! So here’s the scoop on the paint scheme we chose for the house and why. But first, let’s have a chat about paint in general. Warren and I love paint and we love it because there are so many options and it’s temporary! Yes, temporary! Sorry, got off on a tangent there. But really, it’s just paint and it can always be changed. In our case, we first had to strip off miles and miles of wallpaper to get to the painting stage and having just completed wall prep in our master bedroom, we were ready to pick some colors!…

Mastering the First Bedroom
Master Suite – Our First Major Transformation We made the decision early on to focus on our master suite as the first living space to complete. I knew that I was definitely going to need a “getaway”, if you will, from the renovation craziness. There was something very appealing about being able to go to my own room at the end of each day and climb into my own bed and have a finished (and clean) space to wake up to each day. We decided to get all of the wallpaper removed and the walls prepped for painting and then painted before beginning the floors. We would later change up…
