More Paint; The Real Transformation Begins

Welcome Back!

Hey there and sorry, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything to the Young Victorian project but we’ve been a bit busy! Just in the last month, we decided to close our rentals business which you can read about here. And that prompted the creation of a new website to house our renovation story and you can read about the creation of FaithSpun here. I wanted to take a few posts to really introduce FaithSpun before jumping back into the renovation project.

It is important to note that this post brings us up to where we were around late February 2016. That was during a time when Warren and I were not attending church and struggling through this enormous project, while trying to run two businesses. It was a time when we could have definitely benefited from a closer relationship with our Creator. But ultimately, I know it is everything we were going through at that time that brought us to where we are now and to the time in which the Holy Spirit began working in our hearts and lead us to a wonderful new church home just about a year later. So with that, let’s talk paint again, shall we?

Okay, not the same kind of painting but we had a dream of what we wanted the house to look like and getting some paint up on the formerly wallpapered walls was that first step to making that dream come to life! We started with the master bedroom. You may remember in our first post on the master bedroom, that we had some work to do to the walls first, but now they were ready for some color! Just not the color that the wallpaper and carpet previously added to the room!

We chose a neutral color for most of the walls and bright blue accent walls at the end of the room closest to the bathroom. All of the trim in the house was the same bright white.

 Creating a Calming Guest Space

Next we moved into the guest bedroom where we wanted neutral colors on the walls so we chose two colors which in some light looks grey, other times it looks blue and then other times it looks grey-ish, blue-ish, green-ish! I like that the colors keep you guessing on what they really are!

A Place for Warren

Warren’s office was next and while we wanted most of the walls to be a neutral “greige”, we had to add some blue in there because well, it is Warren’s favorite color!

And since Warren works from home and would spend a lot of time in there, it was important that his office reflect his style and a bright blue wall would go perfectly with all of the rustic touches we would add later in decor.

 Is it Foy-yay or Foy-yer?

Okay, first discussion on how to pronounce “foyer” and is it really an upstairs foyer or an upstairs hall? So we pronounce it “foy-yay” and I don’t know why but it sounds more French that way and I’m at least 1/4 French so yeah, it’s “foy-yay”! And it’s not really a hallway because it’s all open to the downstairs foyer so we refer to this space as the upstairs foyer.

There was some additional drywall work to be done in this space because there was a funky niche that needed to go away. More than we needed that niche, we really wanted the extra foot of space it would give to the new guest bathroom on the other side, so Warren closed it up! 

The upstairs foyer was the last painting to be done before the wood flooring installation could begin. What was the laundry room would go untouched until which time we were ready to turn it into a guest bathroom and our master bathroom was left untouched until it received its renovation, which would not come until after the guest bathroom was completed.

The upstairs foyer was done in the lightest of the three blue paints we would use throughout the house. Since there is so little natural light in the foyer, both upstairs and downstairs, we wanted the entire space to be a bright color and not so serious! Because this space was pretty darn serious when we bought it!
