Jennie Allen, the author of Nothing to Prove, is described as a recovering achiever and man that’s what I want to be too! Can you imagine being okay with not being enough. To realize that God is everything and that you alone will always fall short, and that’s okay? To stop the never-ending cycle of feeling like you have to prove yourself to everyone? To let go of everything you drag around with you day-to-day in an effort to please others? to please God? It’s about the journey with God and how we all need to stop trying so hard on our own to please God and just let Him into our lives as an active participant along this journey. Imagine the freedom we can experience if we will only learn to allow God to take over and work amazing wonders through our love for Him!
I recently picked-up Nothing to Prove after being introduced to Jennie Allen through my first IF:Gathering. My church was hosting IF:Gathering 2018 and I signed up not really knowing what to expect. What a wonderful experience; one that I look forward to again next year. It was an experience that really got me out of my comfort zone as I was forced to begin looking at myself as a disciple; me, a disciple! If you are not familiar with this conference, you need to introduce yourself to it. From their website, IF:Gathering is described this way:
Wow, that’s some powerful stuff and so are the writings of Jennie Allen. She is the founder of IF:Gathering and has additional books and bible studies that I have not yet read but plan to once I finish this book:
Be sure to leave a comment if you’ve read or studied any of Jennie’s other works. Or if you’ve already read Nothing to Prove, I’d love to hear your thoughts and takeaways! Any comments about IF: Gathering would be lovely to share too!
I was truly moved by the IF:Gathering and particularly moved by Jennie’s style and presentation. I wanted more of it following the conference so I set-out to find more from Jennie and chose Nothing to Prove as my first reading. Take a look at Jennie talking about her newest book; she definitely says it better than I ever could and hey, I’m still only half-way through this great little book!
Blessings,
